About the Exhibit:
In A Different Town Hall: Artists in Residence at DPC the artists took a new approach for filling The Browsing Room Gallery this summer. An idea circulated of curating the work of our neighboring studio mates, instead of picking our own work to exhibit.
Simply letting someone else decide the fate of what artwork is shown quickly developed into a full-fledged democratic process. What ensued was a basic vote with a majority ruling, with one dissenter (RBG would be so proud!) and a summons to coordinate with each other to find the ‘right piece,’ while not knowing what the overall pool of artwork would represent.
The works chosen span from paintings to pen and ink, along with the use of recycled materials and textiles for a versatile
selection from a hung jury. We invite you to visit with us and view our work at The Browsing Room and come to your own conclusions.

About the Artists:
Richard Feaster received a BFA in painting from Birmingham Southern College and a MFA in painting from Tulane University’s Newcomb College and is represented in Tennessee by Nashville’s Zeitgeist Gallery and in Boston, MA by Erdreich White Fine Art. www.richardfeaster.com

Hans Schmitt-Matzen is a fine artist working in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his BFA from Middle Tennessee State University with an emphasis in painting and a minor in philosophy. He is actively involved in curatorial work for both private clients and public institutions. He was a board member of Fugitive Projects and was a founding member of COOP Gallery. Hans is represented by David Lusk Gallery. www.hansschmittmatzen.com

Rolin Smith is an interdisciplinary artist, he uses ink, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media and digital manipulation. www.rolinsmith.com

Sarah Hart Landolt is an abstract, fluid ink, 2D artist who specializes in painting emotions. She engages the public by involving data of which colors/shapes they associate with an emotion and where they feel it in their body. She curiously seeks to externalize our inner landscapes and to
investigate where there is consensus and diversity in how we experience emotion.  www.sarahhartlandolt.com

Mel Beall is a textile and fiber craft person from Nashville, Tennessee. With a background in nursing, she now works as a goat farmer for a local herd. Since 2015, she has studied craft at Penland School of Crafts, Arrowmont, and John C. Campbell Folk School. Her areas of interest are spinning, knitting, natural dyes, sewing, and printing. @melliebtextiles

Dana Jo Cooley is a contemporary artist and theologian. She is a presidential scholarship recipient and graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design. Dana Jo holds a Master of Theological Studies from Vanderbilt University with a certification in Religion in the Arts and Contemporary Culture where she received a Creative Merit Scholarship. @mywindowyourview

Janet Decker Yanez is a process-oriented, multi-media artist. She visually documents shared space, time, memories and experiences with media from fabrics to found objects. Janet has a BFA in painting with a minor in Art History from the Univ. of Houston. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is in private and corporate collections. @janet_decker_yanez

About the Gallery:
The Browsing Room is a non-commercial gallery created in the space of the historic DPC’s old congregational library. The gallery serves as an extension of DPC’s long standing studio community known as the Artists in Residence (AIR) who have studio spaces above DPC’s chapel. The Browsing Room connects an art-seeking community with their AIR, as well as with other local and regional artists, by featuring a rotation of quarterly exhibitions. The gallery is currently open by appointment only.
