On Saturday, January 25, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., there will be an active shooter presentation at Second Presbyterian Church and anyone from DPC is welcome and encouraged to attend. Session members, committee leaders, staff, frequent greeters and Saturday breakfast leaders are particularly encouraged.
The session will be led by Sgt. Michelle S. Coker, MNPD Midtown Hills Precinct Community Coordinator, and will include:
- Best practices of survival through Avoid, Deny, Defend formally known as Run, Hide, Fight
- Learn about the psychology of who survives & why during disastrous events
- Being situational aware of your surroundings during all times anywhere you are
- Getting in the proper mindset of having a script & practicing (whether at home, work, or anywhere). This includes having a contingency plan in place for your place of employment
- Know what to expect when first responders respond
The presentation will not include any viewings of persons injured or killed. The program is purely informational and uses techniques and information from https://www.avoiddenydefend.org/
