In the spirit of Matthew 19:14, we welcome children to DPC. We believe we learn from them as much as they learn from us! We currently have opportunities for all ages to participate in the life of The Downtown Presbyterian Church.
Our Nursery is staffed from 9:30 am until the end of worship service by loving, paid caregivers. Children ages 3-5 years participate in a Bible lesson that may include art, song and story, and they attend the first part of worship with their caregivers.
Children in grades K-8 currently have Sunday School from 9:30-10:45. During class the children discuss the week’s scripture and/or theme and participate in a variety of fun activities. Older children and youth also have periodic opportunities to lead in worship.
During some seasons of the church year, children and youth have Sunday School with adults, creating an intergenerational setting. This approach to Christian education is always fun and nurturing for all.
Special events for young people include an Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday, summer camp opportunities, Cottage Dinner gathering on Good Friday, end of year celebration in May, confirmation for rising 7th graders, leading worship for Children’s Sabbath, and mission projects.
The “JuveNiles” youth choir has not yet resumed practices due to the pandemic, but traditionally they meet on Sunday at 9am in the choir room. In rehearsals, children practice music to sing in worship and learn singing techniques, breath support, and reading music, all through games and other fun activities. Students in rising Kindergarten and up are invited to join this group led by the church choir director and organist, William Taylor.
If you have any questions about the children’s program, contact the church office.
