A novella set in 1843 tells the story of a Scottish minister, John, sent to evict the last inhabitant, Ivar, from a remote island, leading to an unexpected bond between them despite a language barrier. John’s wife, Mary, waits anxiously on the mainland. The story explores themes of loneliness, connection, history (the Highland Clearances), and survival through the perspectives of the three main characters.
